​The United Institute of Theatre Technology has rotating funding opportunities that support travel, research and innovation. Grants are offered based on available funding at the discretion of our Research Activities Committee.

Surface Design supports the creative growth of SDA members. Surface Design Association grants fund regional exhibitions and events as well as personal development projects.

Teams of creative artists are invited biennially to devise production concepts for specific works from the inherited or American repertoire. Winning teams present their designs to producers throughout the industry in the Director-Designer Showcase at the national Opera Conference.
